David Beckham has been granted a knighthood by King Charles III in recognition of his services to football and his charitable activities. The ceremonial accolade was presented at an event in Berkshire on Tuesday.
Beckham attended the ceremony in a tailored three-piece suit created by his wife, Victoria Beckham, and was joined by his parents, Ted and Sandra. The honour celebrates both his high-profile sporting achievements and his long-standing philanthropic commitments.
Now a co-owner of Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, Beckham remains best known for his breakthrough at Manchester United, where he debuted for the first team in 1992 aged 17. During his time with United he collected six Premier League crowns, two FA Cups, two FA Charity Shields and was part of the 1999 squad that won the UEFA Champions League as part of the club’s historic treble.
Beckham also spent four seasons with Real Madrid in Spain, leaving the club after helping them to a La Liga title in his final campaign there. His club career, international standing and profile have made him a recognisable figure worldwide.
Reflecting on the award, Beckham said he felt proud and humbled, noting that the honour recognised not only his on-field successes but also his voluntary work for children and charitable causes—a personal commitment he described as deeply meaningful.
On the international stage Beckham made his England debut on 1 September 1996 at 21, went on to captain the national side for six years and earned 58 caps, leaving a lasting imprint on English football as a skilled midfielder and leader.
The knighthood cements Beckham’s dual legacy as both a standout footballer of his generation and a dedicated contributor to charitable initiatives.
