Ranveer Singh’s thrilling spy film Dhurandhar has achieved remarkable success at the global box office, surpassing the significant milestone of Rs 1100 crore worldwide. This places it among the highest-grossing Indian films in history. Yet, after a stellar performance, the movie is now witnessing a decline, recording its lowest box office revenue on the fourth Friday of its release.
On that particular Friday, Dhurandhar garnered Rs 9.70 crore domestically, bringing its total earnings within India to Rs 794.20 crore. The overall occupancy across cinemas has slipped to 18 percent, with morning shows seeing only 9.65 percent audience turnout. In contrast, afternoon and evening screenings attracted more viewers, achieving occupancy rates of 20.32 percent and 21.93 percent respectively.
Regionally, the National Capital Region (NCR) showed a respectable occupancy of 20 percent across 921 screenings, while Mumbai reported a slightly lower 18.33 percent occupancy from 633 shows. These figures indicate a noticeable slowdown compared to the earlier weeks of the film’s release, which saw packed theaters and sold-out screens.
Despite the recent dip in daily box office collections, Dhurandhar has already exceeded the global lifetime box office of major Bollywood hits like Pathaan (Rs 1,069.85 crore) and Jawan (Rs 1,163.62 crore), solidifying its place as the sixth highest-grossing Indian film to date. However, it still trails behind iconic blockbusters such as KGF Chapter 2, RRR, Pushpa 2: The Rule, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Dangal, which occupy the top positions in cinematic history.
Interestingly, the film continues to perform well against newer releases, outpacing films like Tu Meri Main Tera, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, and the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar: Ash and Fire. This illustrates the enduring popularity of Dhurandhar weeks after its initial premiere.
The film boasts a stellar cast, led by Ranveer Singh, alongside prominent actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun. Produced collaboratively by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar debuted in theaters on December 5.
Anticipation surrounds the upcoming sequel, Dhurandhar 2, which is scheduled for release on March 19 this year, promising more thrilling action and intrigue in this acclaimed spy thriller franchise.
