Dnata's €25M Investment in Milan Cargo Hub

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Milan, Italy – Dnata, a prominent name in air and travel services worldwide, has unveiled its plan to invest €25 million in a state-of-the-art cargo hub at Milan Malpensa Airport through its local branch, Airport Handling.

This ambitious project will cover 10,000 square meters within Cargo City and is expected to manage over 100,000 tonnes of cargo each year. The facility will be capable of handling a diverse collection of goods such as perishables, pharmaceuticals, hazardous materials, live animals, aircraft engines, and vehicles.

Following a competitive bidding process by SEA Group, the operator of both Linate and Malpensa airports, this development will also bring approximately 200 jobs to the local economy, further solidifying Milan's role as a vital logistics hub in Europe.

Commitment to Sustainability

Emphasizing sustainability, the new facility will feature energy-efficient technologies. It will utilize photovoltaic panels for renewable energy, employ energy-saving LED lighting, provide high thermal insulation, and maximize natural light throughout warehouse and office spaces. Furthermore, the infrastructure will support low-emission ground operations, demonstrating Dnata's dedication to eco-friendly growth.

Enhancing Cargo Operations in Italy

Through this expansion, Airport Handling aims to establish itself as a comprehensive ground services provider in Milan. Currently catering to over 60 airlines and managing around 80,000 flights across the city’s two airports, its recent expansion into Rome’s Fiumicino Airport emphasizes its escalating influence in the region.

Dnata's cargo operations extend to 90 airports in 16 countries, handling 3.1 million tonnes of cargo in FY 2024–25, which is a 9% increase from the previous year. The Milan hub aligns with the organization's broader strategy to invest in high-growth markets and modern infrastructure to meet increasing demands for e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and perishable goods.

Set to be operational by September 2027, the new cargo hub will serve as a pivotal element in Milan’s logistics landscape.
