Drydocks World marks a significant construction achievement with the successful launch of its 5,000-tonne floating crane ALNOKHADA, paving the way for its outfitting phase and aiming for delivery in Dubai by Q2 2026.
Developed in collaboration with ZPMC Offshore, this impressive crane barge has completed its main fabrication and is now moving into a crucial outfitting stage. This step will focus on installing and testing essential systems ahead of full commissioning slated for early 2026.
The name ALNOKHADA emerged from a nationwide public competition, attracting over 3,000 submissions. The honored entry came from Kim Alfonso, a certified lifting equipment engineer from the Philippines, who has ties with Drydocks World. The term النوخذة (Al Nokhada) signifies a traditional dhow captain, symbolizing leadership and the UAE’s rich nautical heritage.
Spanning 138.5 metres in length, with a 52-metre beam and 5.8-metre draft, ALNOKHADA is designed for the region's most challenging heavy lift operations. It features a main hook with a remarkable 5,000-tonne capacity, alongside a 600-tonne auxiliary hook that can reach heights of 180 metres. The crane will significantly enhance Drydocks World’s support for intricate offshore, industrial, and energy initiatives.
With ALNOKHADA now operational in its afloat stage, this project plays a crucial role in bolstering the UAE’s heavy-lift capabilities and advancing the nation’s maritime and industrial development.
