The Dubai Future Forum 2025 showcased the intersection of rapid technology and community collaboration in shaping future cities. Experts emphasized that this synergy will pave the way for significant innovations across various sectors.
Adam Scott, Co-Founder of the Experience Foundation, shared insights on how future communities will leverage AI and open data to enhance public services through intelligent systems. He highlighted the necessity of prioritizing human connections, cultural heritage, and community involvement in urban planning to foster vibrant living spaces.
Scott urged global urban planners and creatives to unite in crafting cities that adapt to cultural shifts and meet residents' needs, thus enhancing social cohesion.
Marwan bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, elaborated on the city’s focus on people-centered urban development. He pointed out that Dubai’s commitment to streamlined access to essential services—often within 20 minutes—exemplifies its human-centered approach.
Ghalita also noted Dubai's success in leveraging cultural diversity as a catalyst for creativity, thanks to robust partnerships among the government, private sector, and academic institutions. He reiterated Dubai’s vision of being a vibrant global hub for innovation and quality of life.
Professor Lesley Lokko, of the African Futures Institute, discussed the role of belonging in urban settings, suggesting that community identity is shaped by urban design. She commended Dubai’s balance of heritage with modernity, advocating for adaptable and culturally conscientious urban planning.
During the plenary session titled “From Molecules to Stars: What’s Next?”, Dr Nikku Madhusudhan from the University of Cambridge discussed humanity’s evolving understanding of extraterrestrial life. He emphasized the implications of technological advancements for rethinking life on Earth and our place in the cosmos.
The forum reinforced the view that the future of cities will hinge not only on technological advancements but also on cultural and human elements. Experts agreed that a blend of AI, innovation, and a human-centric vision can cultivate sustainable and inclusive communities, with Dubai serving as a prime example of successfully navigating the balance between growth and quality of life.
