Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has officially introduced SME in a Box, a digital initiative aimed at streamlining the business establishment journey for entrepreneurs throughout the emirate.
This innovative platform offers entrepreneurs a consolidated access point to crucial services, including licensing assistance, banking, digital transactions, logistics, telecommunications, and essential operational solutions. Rather than juggling several service providers, users can benefit from a curated network of vetted partners, all within one platform.
The primary goal of this initiative is to alleviate the hurdles that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often encounter when setting up. Traditionally, entrepreneurs have invested considerable time comparing vendors and completing numerous onboarding tasks, alongside handling various administrative obligations. SME in a Box aims to mitigate these issues, facilitating quicker launches and reducing administrative workload and costs.
According to DET, the value offered through the platform could exceed AED 80,000, thanks to service options tailored to meet specific needs. Entrepreneurs can take advantage of discounted prices, waived fees, subsidized onboarding, and exclusive partner offerings.
Additionally, Emirati SME participants will enjoy extra advantages, including unique offers and enhanced onboarding assistance to promote national entrepreneurship and growth.
DET further mentioned that activating banking and payment services through this platform could save entrepreneurs up to 200 hours, normally spent on researching providers and addressing onboarding procedures. This time saved allows startups to quickly shift focus toward customer engagement and revenue generation.
SME in a Box kicks off with 18 private-sector allies committed to delivering specialized SME solutions alongside efficient onboarding support. Among these partners are Emirates NBD, Network International, Commercial Bank of Dubai, du, Crossval, Paymob, Ziina, Qashio, Bayzat, Mamo, Aramex, Tabby, Arab Financial Services (AFS), Revent, Ascentia, DHL, Maison, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.
Select digital-first services, such as payments and logistics, can be activated in as little as 24 hours through integrated onboarding and automated eligibility verification. Other services, including corporate banking and licensing, will adhere to standard regulations but will benefit from pre-validation to expedite processes.
Ahmad Al Room Almheiri, CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME), stated that the platform was developed based on direct feedback from founders prioritizing efficiency and cost transparency. He emphasized that SME in a Box enhances clarity for entrepreneurs regarding costs, timelines, and prerequisites for business setup.
This initiative aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), focusing on doubling the economy's size while bolstering Dubai's status as a top business-friendly location. It also highlights DET’s long-term commitment to supporting SMEs across various growth stages, from startups to more established enterprises.
The rollout of SME in a Box will be phased, commencing with vital services related to licensing, banking, payment solutions, telecommunications, logistics, and marketing. Future updates will incorporate greater digital integration, automated onboarding features, and synergies with the Invest in Dubai platform for a comprehensive business setup experience.
Additionally, this platform will integrate with Dubai Founders HQ, seamlessly connecting entrepreneurs with potential investors, mentors, and opportunities as part of the D33 agenda. This connection facilitates a smoother transition from startup to sustainable growth.
DET, together with its partners, has plans to further enhance the platform with advanced analytics and automation tools aimed at improving service delivery and assessing the economic impact within Dubai's SME sector.
Entrepreneurs, startups, Dubai SME members, and existing businesses in Dubai are encouraged to explore SME in a Box and take advantage of its comprehensive services.
