Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), part of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), has officially opened registration for the third edition of the MIT DesignX Dubai Accelerator Programme (MDXB). This unique initiative, created in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Global Growth Hub, aims to support startups building sustainable solutions for real-world urban challenges.

The programme will run from October 20, 2025, to January 28, 2026, and will be hosted at Dubai Silicon Oasis, the city’s special economic zone for knowledge, innovation, and technology.

What Is MIT DesignX Dubai?

MIT DesignX is a globally respected accelerator programme developed by MIT to support urban tech startups. The Dubai edition focuses on helping entrepreneurs solve complex problems facing modern cities—such as traffic, pollution, housing shortages, and energy waste.

This third cohort will include 12 teams, each selected for their innovative approach to tackling these challenges through technology, design, and smart solutions.

Focus Areas: Five Key Sectors

For this round, the programme will focus on five high-priority sectors:

  • Real Estate
  • Design and Architecture
  • Transportation and Logistics
  • Sustainability
  • Health

These sectors are directly aligned with Dubai’s long-term development goals, including the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 and the UAE Centennial 2071 vision, which aim to build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready cities.

Success Stories from Previous Cohorts

The previous two editions of MIT DesignX Dubai have already shown impressive results:

  • In the first cohort, Othalo, a startup that converts plastic waste into housing, secured a $200,000 investment. Their solution helps provide affordable homes to underserved communities while also reducing plastic pollution.
  • In the second cohort, Theion, a team working on crystalline lithium-sulfur battery technology, was awarded AED 100,000. Their innovation is considered a breakthrough in the renewable energy storage sector.

Both startups also received a year-long free business setup at Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus (Dtec)—the largest tech-focused coworking space in the MENA region—offering them a strong launchpad to grow within the UAE’s digital economy.

What the Leaders Are Saying

“We bring together global academic excellence, cutting-edge infrastructure, and a strong investment ecosystem to help ideas turn into real businesses. This is how we’re building the smart and sustainable cities of tomorrow.”

Gilad Rosenzweig – Executive Director, MIT DesignX

He emphasized that hosting the programme in Dubai, a city known for its tech ambitions and focus on sustainability, shows how collaboration between academia and entrepreneurship can lead to real progress.

Why Dubai?

Dubai has rapidly grown into one of the world’s leading innovation hubs. Through projects like DSO, Dtec, and the MIT DesignX partnership, the city is not only supporting tech entrepreneurs but is actively shaping the future of cities.

By supporting clean energy, sustainable construction, smart mobility, and urban health, the city hopes to solve pressing challenges while strengthening its knowledge-based economy.

This accelerator is more than a business opportunity—it’s part of a nationwide mission to build a better, smarter future for everyone.

The launch of the third MIT DesignX Dubai Accelerator Programme is another important step in the UAE’s vision for innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. With support from MIT, DSO, and DIEZ, the programme creates a global platform for startups to build solutions that matter.

It’s a chance for the brightest minds from around the world to test, refine, and scale their ideas in one of the most forward-thinking cities on the planet.

Startups interested in applying have until the programme's kickoff in October 2025, and those selected will benefit not just from world-class support—but also from the opportunity to shape the cities of tomorrow.
