Enhanced Trade Relations Between Dubai and Western Cape

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a recent meeting in South Africa, Dubai Chambers officials collaborated with Western Cape Premier Alan Winde to explore enhanced trade and investment relations.

The dialogue aimed at increasing economic partnership and unveiling fresh opportunities for businesses in both regions. Dubai Chambers presented Dubai as a comprehensive business hub, positioned to provide South African enterprises with access to local and global markets.

Additional conversations included Dubai's pivotal role in promoting international trade, fostering cross-border alliances, and assisting businesses in tapping into global expansion possibilities.

Premier Alan Winde expressed the Western Cape's dedication to strengthening trade links with the UAE, particularly with Dubai, to create robust economic connections.

He remarked that Dubai’s expertise in finance, logistics, tourism, and innovation aligns perfectly with the Western Cape’s objectives for economic advancement and job generation. Winde highlighted the vast potential for collaboration across sectors such as renewable energy, agri-processing, technology, and infrastructure.

Winde further emphasized the benefits the Western Cape offers investors, like political stability, updated infrastructure, a capable workforce, and a successful investment history.

The meeting featured Salem AlShamsi, Executive Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, who reiterated the organization's commitment to enhancing economic collaboration with Western Cape and South Africa.

AlShamsi highlighted the importance of discovering new prospects across diverse fields, improving company competitiveness, and attracting significant investments that would be mutually beneficial.

He underscored the significance of strategic alliances between private entities, stating that these partnerships can drive growth in vital industries and unleash new business opportunities.

AlShamsi pointed out that the delegation accompanying the Dubai Chamber of Commerce's trade mission to South Africa signifies the major importance of the South African market, which was Dubai's fifth-largest trading partner in Africa the previous year.

He characterized South Africa's robust economic status and growth potential as vital for Dubai's business community. He portrayed the Western Cape as a vibrant economic center, particularly strong in priority sectors, especially in food trade.

The meeting highlighted the mutual commitment to advance trade and investment cooperation, support sustainable business relationships, and create new avenues for businesses operating within both Dubai and the Western Cape.

These discussions occurred concurrently with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s trade mission to Cape Town, aimed at furthering Dubai-based enterprises' reach within the South African market.
