The Dubai Films and Games Commission participated in the 79th Cannes Film Festival from May 12 to 23, 2026, in Cannes, France. This involvement is part of Dubai's strategic initiative to enhance its global footprint in the film industry.
The Commission's goal is to forge sustainable relationships with worldwide studios, producers, and industry participants, highlighting Dubai’s evolving film production landscape, infrastructure, and creative capabilities.
A delegation led by CEO Hesham Al Olama engaged with numerous international studios and producers throughout the festival. The conversations revolved around upcoming collaborations, creative exchanges, and attracting more global productions to Dubai.
Officials emphasized that Dubai’s representation at Cannes is indicative of its broader ambition to cultivate a resilient and competitive film industry backed by advanced infrastructure, proficient talent, and cohesive governmental backing.
Hesham Al Olama stated that Dubai’s involvement signals a fresh chapter in its global film industry engagement. He remarked that Cannes serves as a vital platform for establishing partnerships and promoting Dubai as a premier destination for international film production.
Film Commissioner Samr Almarzooqi noted that the festival showcases Dubai’s increasing significance in the international filmmaking domain. She highlighted that Dubai garners growing interest owing to its rapidly developing ecosystem, production support services, and collaborative atmosphere.
Offering world-class infrastructure, efficient permitting, rapid approvals, and robust logistical assistance, Dubai stands out as an attractive filming destination. From modern skylines to deserts, beaches, historic sites, and mountains, the city provides diverse locales for filmmakers.
Over the years, Dubai has established itself as a central production hub in the Middle East, facilitating international projects with access to studios, personnel, and equipment. The city continues to enhance incentives and support structures to draw larger global initiatives.
Recent films shot in Dubai include Amazon Prime Video’s Jack Ryan and Netflix’s Korean series Genie, Make a Wish, underscoring the city’s burgeoning influence in the realm of global streaming content.
