The inauguration of 'Al Shera'a' by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum marks a significant step towards sustainability, serving as the headquarters for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in Al Jaddaf.
This iconic structure is celebrated as the world's tallest and smartest net-positive government building. It embodies Dubai's ambition to integrate sustainability into everyday practices through contemporary innovations and renewable energy solutions.
During the unveiling, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that Dubai's ongoing investment in cutting-edge infrastructure and talent reinforces its status as a leader in sustainable development. He regards Al Shera'a as a benchmark for energy efficiency and eco-friendly practices.
The ceremony saw the presence of top UAE officials, including Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Mohammed received a warm welcome from Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer along with DEWA representatives before exploring an exhibit that showcases the organization's legacy and future initiatives.
Al Tayer highlighted that Al Shera'a pioneers a fresh model for sustainable and intelligent government buildings, employing AI and IoT technologies to foster a highly efficient working environment.
Equipped with over 110,000 smart sensors, the system captures real-time environmental and operational data. This includes 1,500 wireless access points and 3,200 network devices that issue approximately 1.9 million automated commands daily to enhance operational efficiency.
All technologies within Al Shera'a are managed via a sophisticated AI application, coordinating about 100 systems that encompass smart parking, climate control, lighting, and air quality management.
The building's clean energy production capacity is 5 megawatts, featuring two solar energy systems with photovoltaic panels integrated into the structure and around 8,400 solar panels installed on rooftops and adjoining areas. Robotic cleaners are also deployed to keep the panels efficient.
A dedicated pedestrian bridge links the headquarters to Al Jaddaf Metro Station, promoting public transport usage and minimizing carbon emissions.
Drawing inspiration from Emirati architectural traditions, Al Shera'a marries heritage with modern innovation. The name 'Al Shera'a', translating to 'sail' in Arabic, reflects themes of progress and openness.
With 19 floors, a ground level, and a basement, the building spans over two million square feet and aims for LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certifications, showcasing its commitment to sustainability and employee wellness.
Al Shera'a will offer various amenities including training rooms, conference facilities, innovation hubs, and childcare services, ensuring a holistic and conducive work environment focused on comfort and productivity.
