Dwayne Johnson has disclosed his efforts to land a cameo in the eagerly awaited sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, expressing a desire to share the screen with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. Currently garnering acclaim for his performance in The Smashing Machine, Johnson recounted this amusing pursuit while discussing his appetite for diverse and unconventional roles.
His connection to the project originated through Emily Blunt, his co-star in The Smashing Machine, which tells the tumultuous story of MMA fighter Mark Kerr. During Blunt's filming of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Johnson approached her directly, revealing his desire to get involved despite the franchise's strong ties to haute couture and dramatic storytelling—worlds quite distinct from his typical action-packed portrayals.
Johnson was enthusiastic about pitching himself for a minor yet striking character, someone stylish and firmly rooted in the fashion scene. Blunt chuckled and confirmed that he indeed made the effort, stating, “he tried” to get included in the project. Describing the role, Johnson noted that it required someone with flair capable of walking in heels—specifically, size 15. He whimsically remarked on the challenge, prompting Blunt to jokingly observe that he could pull off the look, even calling him “hot” in heels.
Despite his captivating charm and eagerness to embrace the role, Johnson did not secure a part in the sequel. Nonetheless, his interest led Blunt to maintain a close rapport with the production team. While filming on the vibrant streets of New York City, she often sent him behind-the-scenes clips and updates from her vehicle as she approached the set. Johnson fondly reminisced about these moments, noting the electric atmosphere around the shoot, with crowds of fans gathering excitedly. He described the energy as akin to “pop star level,” reflecting the enduring power of the franchise nearly two decades post the original film's launch.
Directed by David Frankel, who also had a hand in the iconic 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel and continues the journey of its beloved characters in today’s context. The sequel will explore how the fashion industry has adapted to social media, influential digital trends, and changes in workplace culture. As anticipation intensifies, fans can expect its release on May 1, 2026, with the central cast reprising their acclaimed roles, marking it as a highly anticipated cinematic event.
