The Council of the European Union has officially approved a new regulation to establish an EU-wide Talent Pool platform, marking a significant step toward addressing labour shortages across member states.
According to the Council’s statement, the digital platform is designed to connect non-EU jobseekers with employers across the European Union. The initiative aims to streamline international recruitment, particularly in sectors facing critical workforce gaps.
The EU Talent Pool will be open to skilled professionals residing outside the EU. It will match their profiles with job vacancies posted by employers within EU countries, creating a more efficient and transparent hiring process.
In addition to job matching, the platform will provide detailed guidance on recruitment procedures. It will also inform candidates about their rights, with a strong focus on fair hiring practices and ensuring decent working conditions.
However, candidates who secure employment through the platform will still be required to follow national immigration procedures. This includes obtaining the necessary residence and work permits as per the laws of the respective EU country.
The platform will also offer clear information about these immigration processes, including eligibility criteria and documentation requirements, helping applicants better navigate the system.
Importantly, participation in the EU Talent Pool will remain voluntary for EU member states, allowing countries to decide their level of involvement based on national needs and policies.
The initiative reflects the EU’s broader strategy to attract global talent while maintaining fair and regulated migration systems.
