Ezeiza, Argentina – November 15, 2025: A series of powerful explosions erupted at the Spegazzini Industrial Park in Ezeiza, located south of Buenos Aires, on Friday night, resulting in a significant fire and sending 22 individuals to local hospitals, as reported by authorities. The blasts inflicted damage on several factories, including those in the chemical and plastics sectors, raising alarm about industrial safety standards in the area.
According to Gaston Granados, the mayor of Ezeiza, the explosions impacted various facilities, which included chemical storage and agricultural sites, along with a plastics plant identified as Plásticos Lago. “The magnitude of the explosions and the ensuing fire was immense,” Granados mentioned. He noted the chaotic atmosphere as safety protocols were activated to evacuate individuals in proximity.
Dramatic social media footage showcased immense flames and dark smoke emanating from the industrial complex, while the blast's shockwave was powerful enough to shatter windows throughout Ezeiza and the adjacent town of Canuelas. Residents reported witnessing an object descending from the sky shortly before the explosions, though officials have yet to verify this detail.
Hospital director Carlos Santoro confirmed that 22 people were treated for injuries, including burns and trauma induced by the explosions. Emergency services dispatched 15 firefighting units to manage the ongoing inferno, which is anticipated to persist. Fabian Garcia, Buenos Aires province’s civil defence director, described the situation as “complex” and indicated that extinguishing the fire would require considerable effort.
While rumors regarding a potential small aircraft involvement have emerged, Mayor Granados stated that such claims cannot be substantiated until the fire is fully controlled. Meanwhile, Sinteplast, a factory in the industrial park, clarified that it was not the origin of the blaze. “Everything was destroyed: gates, ceilings, some structures, and fire pipes were blown away. Firefighters are on site. It was a catastrophic explosion. Our facility was untouched, but the shockwave affected everything around it,” explained the factory owner.
This incident highlights the risks faced by both workers and residents residing near industrial zones. Investigations to determine the explosions' cause are underway, with officials vowing to release updates once the fire is contained. Local authorities prioritize the safety of surrounding neighborhoods while emergency responders diligently work to avert additional destruction.
As the fire continues to burn at the industrial park, both the public and local authorities in Argentina remain vigilant, underlining the urgent need for stringent safety measures and efficient emergency responses in industrial areas.
