Dubai Airport Encounters Flight Disruptions as Dense Fog Rolls In

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Dubai International Airport (DXB), renowned as one of the most bustling airports globally, experienced notable disruptions early Thursday due to thick fog. The intense low visibility resulted in the redirection of 19 incoming flights to alternative airports until roughly 9:00 am local time, impacting both flyers and airline operations.

A representative from Dubai Airports confirmed the redirections and noted that the authority is “collaborating actively with airlines, air traffic control, and all airport partners to restore operations swiftly.” Travelers using DXB were strongly encouraged to verify their flight information with airlines prior to arriving at the airport, as schedules may still be disrupted.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued both red and yellow weather alerts early on Thursday, indicating that visibility had dipped below 1,000 meters in certain parts of the UAE. The fog is anticipated to persist through the morning, though an improvement is expected as the day unfolds.

Authorities have also issued safety advisories for motorists. Police in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi have implored drivers to take care on the roads, particularly on highways and in high-traffic city areas. In Abu Dhabi, digital information boards have been activated to reflect temporary speed limits, helping drivers adjust their pace according to visibility.

The dense fog not only impacted aviation but also influenced daily traffic patterns, underlining the difficulties that adverse weather can create for transportation in the UAE. Airport officials and local governing bodies are working together to ensure the safety of both air and ground transit. Travelers are advised to allocate additional time for their commutes and stay updated with official traffic announcements to prevent accidents.

This occurrence is part of the UAE's typical seasonal weather trends, where early morning fog and limited visibility can disrupt usual operations at key transport hubs. Authorities are actively monitoring conditions and are ready to implement further actions should the fog extend, striving to minimize air travel interruptions and maintain public safety.
