Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held a high-level meeting with Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of China, in Riyadh. The discussions focused on enhancing political, economic, and strategic cooperation between the GCC and China, in line with the Joint Action Plan for 2023–2027. Both sides also reviewed the progress of ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, aiming to strengthen economic ties and trade exchanges between the two regions.
Albudaiwi emphasized that the visit would serve to further reinforce Gulf–Chinese relations, noting the strong support and attention these ties receive from the leadership of both the GCC and China. He praised China’s continued support for the Palestinian cause and expressed appreciation for Beijing’s efforts in promoting peace, security, and stability across the Middle East.
Wang Yi acknowledged the initiatives of the GCC General Secretariat in advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, highlighting the shared commitment to enhancing regional stability and fostering closer economic and political ties. He recognized the GCC countries’ influential roles both regionally and internationally, and expressed China’s appreciation for their ongoing support on issues of mutual concern.
The meeting also underlined the importance of continued collaboration in areas such as investment, infrastructure development, energy, and technology. Both sides stressed the need to deepen cultural and diplomatic exchanges, as well as to create mechanisms to facilitate joint projects that benefit both the GCC states and China.
This high-level dialogue demonstrates the commitment of both parties to strengthening their long-standing partnership. It aims to promote strategic cooperation that supports regional stability, expands economic opportunities, and enhances bilateral trade. The discussions reflected a shared vision for deeper engagement across political, economic, and social sectors, ensuring that GCC-China relations continue to grow in alignment with global developments.
