Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat nears Rs 50 crore at box office

Post by : Meena Hassan

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, is showing strong resilience at the box office despite stiff competition. Directed by Milap Milan Zaveri, the intense romantic drama released on October 21, 2025, and continues to attract steady audiences in its second week.

According to early estimates, the film collected Rs 3.5 crore on its first Monday (October 27), taking its total domestic box office earnings to Rs 45 crore. Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film maintained a Hindi occupancy rate of 17.97% on Day 7, with night shows performing the best across major urban centers.

Occupancy Report and Audience Response

On Monday, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat recorded the highest occupancy during night shows (24.14%), followed by afternoon screenings (19.10%), evening shows (18.45%), and morning shows (10.19%). The consistent turnout, especially in multiplex chains and tier-2 cities, reflects growing word-of-mouth appreciation for the film’s emotional depth and chemistry between the lead pair.

Despite releasing alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma—which has already crossed Rs 95 crore domestically—Zaveri’s film has managed to hold its own. While Thamma reached the Rs 50 crore mark within three days, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is gradually inching towards that milestone in its second week, signaling solid audience retention.

Box Office Clash and Genre Appeal

The clash between two contrasting genres—Thamma’s social dramedy and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’s dark romantic tone—has sparked curiosity among moviegoers. While Thamma appeals to family audiences, Zaveri’s film has carved a niche among younger viewers drawn to its passionate storytelling, evocative music, and bold treatment of love and obsession.

Trade analysts note that while the film’s pace isn’t explosive, its steady performance indicates a strong connection with its target audience, especially in northern and western India. With positive word-of-mouth and consistent weekday numbers, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat could cross the Rs 50 crore benchmark by mid-week.

Storyline and Performances

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat follows the story of Vikramaditya Bhonsle (Harshvardhan Rane), a passionate artist whose devotion to Adaa (Sonam Bajwa)—a free-spirited woman—turns into an all-consuming obsession. The narrative explores the blurred line between love and madness, examining how devotion can transform into destructive passion.

Harshvardhan Rane’s portrayal of a brooding artist battling inner turmoil has been widely appreciated, while Sonam Bajwa’s performance as the luminous yet emotionally complex Adaa has received critical praise. The pair’s on-screen chemistry is being touted as one of the most striking aspects of the film.

Milap Milan Zaveri’s Direction and Visual Style

Known for his previous works like Satyameva Jayate and Marjaavaan, director Milap Milan Zaveri takes a detour from his action-heavy storytelling to present a stylized romantic drama rooted in emotional chaos. The film’s visual aesthetic, marked by painterly frames and soulful music, adds intensity to the narrative.

Zaveri has described Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat as a “love story painted with madness”, a theme that resonates throughout its screenplay. The film’s music, composed by Amaal Mallik and Mithoon, has also contributed to its emotional appeal, with songs like “Tere Ishq Mein Deewana” and “Adaa Meri Adaa” trending on streaming platforms.

Harshvardhan Rane on Sonam Bajwa’s Performance

In an interview with Filmfare, Harshvardhan Rane lauded his co-star, saying,

“She’s sitting on a mountain of untapped potential. She’s an earnest artist, a refined human, and a deeply connected person. She’s going to be respected more now, not just as an A-grade commercial heroine, but also as a top-notch actor who can hold the scene even with silence, just by the power of her eyes.”

Their genuine camaraderie off-screen translates effortlessly into on-screen chemistry, adding authenticity to the film’s emotional highs and lows.

Outlook and Future Prospects

With Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat closing in on the Rs 50 crore milestone, trade experts predict that the film could enjoy a long theatrical run, especially if its second weekend shows growth. The romantic drama’s steady box office performance, despite competition from big-ticket releases, highlights a renewed audience interest in emotionally driven love stories.

If it continues its current momentum, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat could end its theatrical journey with Rs 60–65 crore domestically—a solid achievement for a mid-budget romantic film.
