Dubai successfully concluded the first-ever World Sports Summit, organized by the Dubai Sports Council under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE.

Kicking off under the theme “Uniting the World Through Sport,” this summit emerged as a monumental global gathering, attracting over 1,500 attendees. Participants included high-ranking sports officials, club presidents, international federation representatives, and renowned athletes whose accomplishments continue to inspire millions.

Over two dynamic days, the summit featured 70 eminent speakers from various sports disciplines. Key discussions centered on innovation, investment, athlete development, governance, and the evolving landscape of global sports.

A Worldwide Forum for Sports Synergy

His Excellency Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, highlighted the summit's success in uniting sports leaders from nearly 50 nations. With ongoing support from His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the event aimed at enhancing collaboration and supporting initiatives that empower communities through sport.

He underlined sport's essential role in fostering understanding among nations and forging a cooperative global future.

The second day commenced with an engaging discussion on the swift global rise of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Legendary champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, in dialogue with former England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, stressed the importance of leadership, discipline, and the responsibilities athletes have as role models, emphasizing accountability as key to success.

Another engaging session featured Italian football great Roberto Baggio and his daughter Valentina, guided by Alessandro Del Piero. Baggio shared insights on resilience and overcoming adversity, reflecting on his famous missed penalty at the 1994 World Cup final, while Valentina spoke on faith and personal growth through challenges.

Sessions also looked into the merging of sports, fashion, and branding, featuring leaders like Jamie Wayne, CEO of Jimmy Choo, along with Victor Cruz and Michael Utley from AC Milan, discussing athletes as global brand ambassadors and their roles in driving commercial success.

The EuroLeague basketball session addressed Dubai Basketball Club’s historic entry into European play, with Abdullah Al Naboodah, Tony Parker, and prominent basketball figures discussing plans and ambitions for international involvement.

Investment in sports was also a critical topic, with leading investors such as Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghoddusi exploring sustainable growth in club ownership.

Inspiration and Legacy

Motivational speaker Nick Santonastasso moved attendees with his story of overcoming challenges, while Wyke Grousbeck, CEO of the Boston Celtics, offered insights into elite sports leadership.
