Princess Sarah Boosts Global Cooperation in Date Industry

Princess Sarah Boosts Global Cooperation in Date Industry

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Princess Sarah bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Executive Director of the International Dates Council (IDC), recently held a series of important bilateral meetings with agriculture ministers and international delegations. The meetings took place during the IDC’s fifth session in Riyadh, focusing on strengthening cooperation and improving the date and palm sector worldwide.

During the meetings, Princess Sarah discussed ways to support sustainability, enhance production quality, and expand global market access for dates. She met with agriculture ministers from Iraq, Tunisia, and Sudan, exploring joint efforts to improve date cultivation, introduce modern technologies, and assist small producers in the sector. The discussions aimed to create stronger partnerships among date-producing countries and to develop more efficient and sustainable value chains.

A key topic of discussion was the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the date industry. These technologies can help monitor crop health, optimize production, and improve quality control. By integrating smart solutions, countries can enhance yield, reduce waste, and ensure higher quality products reach consumers worldwide.

Princess Sarah also met with the delegation of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences to discuss new programs aimed at raising awareness of the nutritional benefits of dates. The plan includes integrating educational programs into schools to teach children about the health advantages of dates and promoting their consumption as part of a healthy diet. This effort reflects the IDC’s commitment to spreading knowledge about the value of dates beyond traditional markets.

The IDC’s fifth session serves as a platform for member states and international partners to exchange knowledge, share expertise, and discuss innovative solutions for the date sector. Princess Sarah emphasized the importance of collaboration between countries to strengthen the global value chains, ensure sustainable production, and increase market opportunities for small and large producers alike.

These meetings also focused on improving support systems for small producers, who play a critical role in the date industry. By offering training, modern tools, and better access to markets, member countries can ensure that farmers benefit from global trade and that the industry continues to grow sustainably.

The IDC continues to lead initiatives that promote the date sector’s global growth, improve production standards, and support sustainability. Princess Sarah’s meetings highlight the council’s dedication to expanding cooperation, introducing innovative solutions, and fostering partnerships that benefit member countries and their local communities.

Through these efforts, the IDC aims to position the global date industry as a modern, sustainable, and high-quality sector. By leveraging international collaboration, technology, and education, the council works to ensure that dates remain a valuable and nutritious product enjoyed worldwide.

The fifth session of the IDC also reinforces the council’s role in uniting member countries, promoting innovation, and sharing best practices. Princess Sarah’s engagements demonstrate a commitment to building a stronger, more connected global date sector that benefits producers, consumers, and countries alike.
