A groundbreaking trilateral initiative has been introduced by India, Australia, and Canada focusing on technological advancements, clean energy, and innovation. This announcement came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on Saturday.
This collaboration, named the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, seeks to harness the unique capabilities of the three nations to promote critical and emerging technologies. Modi highlighted that this partnership is designed to foster innovation, ensure secure supply chains, advocate for clean energy initiatives, and facilitate the application of artificial intelligence for the public good.
According to a joint statement, the three governments intend to enhance cooperation in critical and emergent technologies and build upon their existing bilateral frameworks. Their efforts will concentrate on green energy advancements, robust supply chains, and the extraction of vital minerals necessary for producing high-tech products.
The statement underlined that the nations share a forward-looking vision committed to a sustainable and secure future. Additionally, the partnership aims to develop and responsibly utilize artificial intelligence to enhance services and generate new opportunities for the populace.
Representatives from India, Australia, and Canada are slated to convene in early 2026 to detail the follow-up actions and put this initiative into motion.
In related discussions on the same day, Prime Minister Modi engaged with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He remarked that the interaction with Starmer infused "new energy" into India-UK relations and expressed optimism about further cooperation across multiple sectors. He also found his dialogue with the UN head to be highly constructive, addressing major global challenges.
During the opening of the G20 Leaders’ Meeting, Modi encouraged global leaders to reassess development models and proposed a G20 initiative aimed at countering the intersection of drug trafficking and terrorism. He further recommended the formation of a global healthcare taskforce to bolster readiness for upcoming crises.
The ACITI Partnership stands as a pivotal move in amplifying India's global partnerships, particularly in technology, innovation, and clean energy—key sectors that are destined to influence future worldwide development.
