India and IOM Focus on Safe Migration Pathways

At a prominent UN forum, India and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) emphasized the urgent need to establish secure and regular migration pathways. The discussions centered on the necessity for countries to design structured migration systems that shield migrant workers, boost economic growth, and lessen the dangers associated with illegal migration and human trafficking.

The forum convened government representatives, global organizations, and policy experts to address migration challenges impacting millions. Indian officials, alongside IOM representatives, scrutinized ways to bolster legal migration options, enhance labor mobility systems, and guarantee the safety and rights of migrants crossing borders for work, studies, and family reunions.

Recognizing migration's pivotal role in the global economy, India noted that countless Indian workers play a significant part in various international industries. Officials underscored the potential for secure migration channels to help these workers find better job prospects while safeguarding them from exploitation and dangerous travel conditions. India also called for heightened international collaboration to streamline migration processes.

The IOM commended India's commitment to aid migrant communities and refine migration management systems. IOM officials remarked that regular migration avenues benefit both the countries sending and receiving migrants by alleviating labor shortages, fostering economic growth, and enhancing societal stability. They also highlighted the crucial need to protect migrants' human rights and facilitate their access to healthcare, education, and legal services.

Indian representatives pointed out that numerous nations are grappling with a lack of skilled professionals in sectors like healthcare, technology, and construction.
