Indian Engineer Dies Suddenly After Airport Farewell

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

A family farewell turned into an unexpected tragedy for Hariraj Sudevan, a 37-year-old Indian-origin engineer living in Abu Dhabi. Just hours after dropping his wife and son at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Hariraj suffered a fatal heart attack, leaving his family and friends in disbelief.

A Loving Husband and Father

Hariraj had spent ten joyful days with his wife, Dr. Anu Ashok, and their son Ishaan Dev Hari, who were visiting him in the UAE. The family had shared many happy moments during their short stay before they returned to Kerala on Sunday evening. Known for being deeply family-oriented, Hariraj was eagerly planning to fly back home later this month to celebrate Ishaan’s 10th birthday on October 27.

A Celebration Before the Tragedy

After dropping his wife and son at the airport, Hariraj joined his close friend, Digin Thomas, to celebrate Thomas’ daughter’s birthday. It was a cheerful evening filled with laughter, cake, and gifts. “We had a wonderful time together, talking and playing with the children. He looked happy and relaxed,” recalled Digin.

The Sudden Medical Emergency

However, the joyful evening took a tragic turn around 11:40 pm when Hariraj suddenly complained of breathing difficulties and began sweating heavily. His roommate, Sujith, quickly called for help, and friends rushed to his side. An ambulance arrived within minutes, and paramedics performed CPR as they transported him to the hospital. Despite their best efforts, doctors were unable to save him. “They tried for almost half an hour, but he didn’t respond,” Digin said, still in shock.

A Life of Discipline and Dedication

Hariraj had been working as a senior offshore construction engineer in the UAE for over 12 years. Known for his professionalism and warm nature, he was well-respected by his colleagues and admired for his technical expertise. Friends described him as a disciplined individual who lived a healthy lifestyle. Although diabetic, he maintained excellent control through diet, yoga, and regular exercise. He also loved playing badminton and was known to participate in friendly community matches.

Signs Overlooked Before the Tragedy

According to his friends, Hariraj had recently undergone a routine offshore medical checkup, during which some irregularities were noted. However, after additional tests, he was assured that everything was fine. In the days before his passing, he had mentioned experiencing mild heartburn, which he believed was a simple gastric issue. No one could have imagined that it was a sign of a more serious problem.

Family’s Deep Grief and Loss

The news of his death has left his family heartbroken. His father-in-law, Ashokan K.P., expressed the family’s sorrow, saying, “We are all devastated and finding it hard to believe he is no longer with us.” Friends in the UAE have been working closely with authorities to arrange the repatriation of his body to Kerala so his loved ones can perform the last rites.

A Brilliant Academic and Career Journey

Hariraj’s academic achievements reflected his commitment to excellence. He completed his B.Tech from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and earned his M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. His journey from Kerala to the UAE was marked by hard work, integrity, and a passion for engineering. His colleagues remember him as a supportive mentor and a true professional.

The Indian community in Abu Dhabi has been mourning Hariraj’s sudden passing. Many remember him as a man who balanced work, health, and family beautifully. Friends described him as “always smiling, helpful, and full of life.” His untimely death serves as a painful reminder of how fragile life can be, even for those who appear perfectly healthy.

Hariraj Sudevan’s passing leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. His family, friends, and colleagues will remember him not just as a talented engineer but as a devoted husband, caring father, and loyal friend. Though his life was cut short unexpectedly, the memories he created will continue to inspire those who knew him.
