PCB Plans UAE Tri-Series Amid Asia Cup Uncertainty

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in discussion with the Afghanistan Cricket Board to organize a tri-series in August. This series may include the UAE as the host country, but only if the Asia Cup is cancelled or postponed.

The 2025 Asia Cup is currently scheduled for September and is supposed to be hosted by India. However, due to tense relations between India and Pakistan, the tournament's future is uncertain. As per the previously agreed hybrid model, Pakistan will not travel to India, which has created confusion about where or whether the event will take place.

A source from the PCB shared, “Since it seems unlikely that the Asia Cup will be held in India, we’re planning a tri-series instead.”

The proposal suggests that if the Asia Cup is moved to the UAE, Pakistan will play against Afghanistan and the UAE in a tri-series in Dubai. This would replace Afghanistan’s scheduled tour of Pakistan in August.

The PCB has already started talks with both cricket boards—Afghanistan and UAE—to plan this series.

“If the Asia Cup doesn't happen, we want the tri-series to be held in Pakistan instead,” the source added.

Mohsin Naqvi, who is currently the PCB Chairman, also serves as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The source mentioned that the ACC will hold a meeting soon to make a final decision on the Asia Cup.

The Indian Cricket Board has not yet confirmed if it is ready to host the Asia Cup in India. Until then, everyone is waiting to see what the ACC decides, especially since the tournament is expected to be played in the T20 format.
