2.35 Million Workers Employed in Indonesia’s Industrial Estates

2.35 Million Workers Employed in Indonesia’s Industrial Estates

Post by : Shakul

With a workforce of 2.35 million, Indonesia's industrial estates see a 15% growth from 2024. The Industry Ministry noted that investments have hit Rp6,744.58 trillion (around US$377.8 billion), indicating a robust manufacturing sector.

Growing Industrial Estates Throughout Indonesia

According to Industry Ministry Director General Tri Supondy, Indonesia boasts 179 industrial estates spanning over 101,351 hectares. These estates exhibit a 57.2% occupancy rate, hosting 11,970 tenant companies, with industrial land increasing by more than 1,500 hectares.

Factors Behind the Growth of Industrial Estates

Government officials attribute the rise of industrial estates to their appeal for long-term domestic and foreign investments. The estates offer integrated manufacturing capabilities, superior infrastructure, and comprehensive business support, ultimately enhancing Indonesia's industrial competitiveness while generating employment.

Manufacturing Growth Across Regions

The ministry highlighted a more even distribution of industrial development. Currently, 61% of industrial estate land is situated outside of Java, with the remaining 39% on the island. Indonesia encompasses 106 industrial estates in Java and 73 elsewhere, illustrating extensive regional development.

Ongoing Challenges

While progress is evident, officials recognize challenges related to land-use stability, environmental protection, energy supply, logistic infrastructures, and licensing. The government aims to enhance investment incentives, build institutional capacity, and extend support to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Implications of This Growth

The swift growth of Indonesia’s industrial estates underscores its goal of becoming a premier manufacturing and investment hub in Southeast Asia. Continuous industrial development, upgraded infrastructure, and regulatory improvements are anticipated to foster economic progress, job growth, and increased foreign investment in the future.
