Investigation Launched into Koh Kret Pottery Shop

Post by : Shakul

Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi, attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, has initiated an investigation into a pottery shop in Koh Kret, Nonthaburi Province, following complaints from tourists regarding undelivered purchased goods. This has sparked significant concerns over consumer rights, particularly in tourist areas.

The issue surfaced when four customers lodged complaints about a pottery-making service priced at 100 baht, which included a 30 baht charge for delivery due to the lengthy firing process. Customers had been promised delivery within a month, which did not occur.

In response, the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) acted promptly. OCPB Secretary-General Mr. Ronnarong Poolpipat dispatched officials to investigate the shop to confirm the facts and ensure fair treatment for affected consumers.

During the inquiry, the shop's owner attributed the delivery delay to flooding that affected the loss of critical shipping documents, complicating the tracking of customer orders. Nonetheless, the shop affirmed that customers wishing to receive their pottery can re-submit their delivery details.

For those who prefer not to receive their items, the shop is offering refunds, encompassing both the pottery firing fee and delivery charge, totaling 130 baht. As reported by the OCPB, one complainant has successfully received a refund, while discussions are ongoing for the remaining three.

Supamas underscored the necessity of intervention by consumer protection authorities to ensure justice for consumers, warning that such incidents could tarnish Thailand’s reputation, especially in tourism-reliant areas.

She advised buyers to retain receipts and vital details like shop name, address, and contact number for any future disputes.

Moreover, she urged shop owners to act with integrity and responsibility, emphasizing that customer trust is crucial for sustainable growth in tourist-dependent regions.

Consumers feeling disadvantaged can reach out to the OCPB hotline at 1166, utilize the OCPB Connect mobile app, or submit complaints via the official website and Damrongtham Centers located within provincial halls.
