Iranian officials have announced that nearly 2,000 individuals, comprising both protesters and security forces, have died in the recent nationwide protests. This is the first acknowledgment from the government regarding the considerable fatalities caused by the harsh response to the protests, which began approximately two weeks ago.

A source from the Iranian government, who asked to remain unnamed, indicated that the fatalities were attributed to “terrorists” who initiated violent confrontations. However, no specific numbers were provided to distinguish between the casualties among protesters and those within the security forces. The official reiterated the government's position that the unrest is the result of hostile entities attempting to disrupt national stability.
