Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Famed Singaporean director and actor Jack Neo is thrilled to announce the return of one of his most cherished characters, Liang Po Po, in a new film titled Liang Po Po: The Comeback. This highly anticipated cinematic project will debut during Chinese New Year 2026, offering a festive surprise for both devoted fans and newcomers.

On his Facebook, Neo shared the news alongside a teaser poster, stating, "Hoo hoo hoo! I've kept this under wraps for quite a while. I wanted to surprise everyone. Hoo hoo hoo, dear friends and loyal fans, after 24 years, I'm back to meet you all!” The poster showcases Liang Po Po with a mischievous glint in her eye as she gazes at a stack of bills, hinting at the character's beloved humorous antics.

Neo followed up with a sneak peek trailer, ending with Liang Po Po playfully asking if her hair appears disheveled, retaining the whimsical charm that endeared her to fans. The character first emerged on the Channel 8 sketch comedy series Comedy Night, which aired from 1990 to 2003 and featured other iconic Singaporean actors like Mark Lee, Henry Thia, and much-loved Moses Lim, nurturing numerous characters that became staples of Singaporean culture.

Liang Po Po made her film debut in 1999 with Liang Po Po: The Movie, which achieved significant commercial success, grossing S$3.03 million and cementing her place among Singapore’s iconic comedic personas. The show also gave life to other memorable characters by Neo, such as Liang Ximei, who eventually starred in her own series and film.

The forthcoming film, Liang Po Po: The Comeback, has sparked enthusiastic discussions on social media, as fans eagerly await the reappearance of this witty and culturally significant grandmother. Neo’s 2026 release promises an engaging mix of nostalgia alongside the festive spirit of the New Year.

This revival signifies more than just a return of a beloved character; it also underscores Jack Neo’s lasting impact on the local comedy scene, ensuring that Liang Po Po remains a cherished figure for audiences young and old.
