External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada, aiming to fortify India-UK bilateral relations. Their discussion focused on the India-UK Vision 2035, a strategic guide for enhancing cooperation over the upcoming decade.
In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed, “Pleased to meet UK Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP on the sidelines of #G7 FMM today in Canada. We recognized the promising growth in our relationship and reaffirmed the India-UK Vision 2035 for enhanced collaboration across vital areas.”
The India-UK Vision 2035 outlines a specific agenda involving collaboration in economic growth, technology and innovation, defense and security, climate action, and education. This aims to create a dynamic partnership that adapts to global opportunities while strengthening education and research initiatives.
Jaishankar's involvement in the G7 meeting underlines India's dedication to international engagement, addressing critical global issues, and amplifying the voice of the Global South. The G7 conference, taking place in the scenic Niagara region on November 11-12, convened foreign ministers from G7 countries—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and the EU—along with outreach partners like India, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine.
During the discussions, Jaishankar and Cooper emphasized enhancing collaboration in technology, trade, climate initiatives, and education. This dialogue builds upon the strong framework of India-UK relations and is anticipated to lead to further strategic partnerships, economic alliances, and knowledge sharing.
This interaction follows a previous meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in July, which sought to revitalize bilateral ties and improve multilateral collaboration on global issues. Jaishankar is expected to engage in further discussions with other G7 and outreach nation counterparts at the meeting.
The India-UK Vision 2035 signifies a mutual commitment to sustained strategic engagement, allowing both nations to tackle global challenges collaboratively and contribute to a secure, sustainable future.
