A devastating jeep crash in Nepal's Karnali province left eight people dead and ten others injured after the vehicle, carrying 18 passengers, plunged around 700 feet down a hillside. The tragic event took place on Friday night in the Jharmare area of Bafikot, Rukum West district, which lies approximately 500 km west of Kathmandu, according to police reports.
On its route from Khalanga in Musikot to the Syalikhadi area of Athbiskot Municipality, the jeep met with disaster. Initial investigations indicate that overspeeding might have played a significant role in this incident, as stated by authorities.
Of the passengers, seven died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries later at a local hospital. Most victims were young adults aged between 15 and 30, compounding the grief for their families and surrounding communities.
The ten survivors are receiving medical care at Rukum's District Hospital in Salle. Local officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash and have called for drivers to adhere to safety protocols on the challenging roads of Karnali province.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for road safety awareness in hilly regions, where steep slopes and speeding frequently result in fatal accidents. Communities are now in mourning over the untimely loss of promising young lives.
