In a surprising twist, Jelly Roll has revealed a brand-new appearance by shaving off his beard for the first time in close to a decade. Renowned for his iconic facial hair, he shared a video where he joked about looking like a “Ninja Turtle.” The singer confessed that he initially grew the beard to mask insecurities regarding his weight, as it felt easier to conceal parts of his face rather than face the reality of his heaviest moments.
This transformation comes at a pivotal point in his career. While on tour in Australia, he learned he secured three Grammy nominations, including honors for best contemporary country album and best country duo/group performance. Expressing heartfelt surprise and appreciation, he reminisced that attending the Grammys once felt like a fleeting experience, never expecting to return with additional nominations. For Jelly Roll, the recognition is a deeply meaningful aspect of his artistic journey.
Fans had mixed reactions to his new look, with one notable response from his daughter Bailee Ann, who burst into laughter, remarking she might cry because he looked like a turtle. Her candid reaction captured the surprise many felt when confronted with his dramatic change.
This shaving event also underscores the remarkable physical changes Jelly Roll has experienced through his weight-loss journey. Over the last three years, he has shed over 200 pounds and often shares updates about his journey, including his struggles and ambitions. His wife, Bunnie Xo, had suggested he might shave completely to showcase his newly sculpted jawline. Jelly Roll hinted at further transformations, possibly considering skin-removal procedures or a facelift as part of his evolving self-image.
Before opting for the final clean-shaven look, he experimented with various styles, including a goatee and a mustache, both of which received positive reactions from his wife. Bunnie humorously commented that the fully shaved appearance was “not terrible,” embracing the fun of the moment.
In a recent interview, Jelly Roll candidly discussed his lifelong battle with obesity, revealing he tipped the scales at over 300 pounds upon leaving middle school and peaked around 550 pounds. He emphasized that his current goal is to become healthier rather than solely focusing on muscle gain. Jelly Roll aspires to be under 300 pounds before participating in the SummerSlam 2025, where he is set to compete in a tag-team match.
