K2, an Abu Dhabi government–owned company focusing on advanced autonomous systems and AI-driven technologies, has taken another step forward in international cooperation. The company signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Pahang Aerospace City (PAC) and the University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) in Kuala Lumpur. This partnership aims to develop next-generation autonomous platforms that will support the future of aviation, safety, and mobility.
Signing Ceremony In Kuala Lumpur
The LOI was signed before the “Hi-Tea” event hosted by His Majesty Sultan Abdullah, the Sultan of Pahang. The ceremony was attended by Sean Teo, Managing Director of K2, Dr. Yatimah Alias, Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, and Adjunct Professor Nurazmi Abas, CEO of PAC. The event highlighted the strengthening ties between Abu Dhabi and Malaysia in technology and innovation.
Shared Vision For Technology And Safety
The cooperation is built on a shared vision to enhance public safety, improve passenger mobility solutions, and develop responsible AI-driven systems. K2 will work closely with UMPSA to design programmes and explore opportunities that use local talent. This collaboration will also support Malaysia’s human capital development, ensuring that young professionals and students have access to cutting-edge knowledge.
PAC As The National Technology Partner
PACDB, the national flagship initiative of Pahang, will act as the main operations and business technology partner in Malaysia. PACDB and its strategic partners have pledged to endow UMPSA with RM50 million, which will help build a foundation for research and development. The gross development value of PAC is projected to reach RM20 billion in the next decade. PAC also aims to become the first multimodal hub in the region for aviation, aerospace, and space.
Role Of UMPSA In The Collaboration
UMPSA, a top Malaysian public university known for its technology and engineering expertise, will lead academic cooperation. It will also play an important role in supporting national certification frameworks for deploying autonomous systems. This ensures that future innovations will meet high safety and quality standards while contributing to Malaysia’s economic and technological progress.
Commitment To Responsible AI
K2 emphasized that its cooperation with Malaysia is not only about growth but also about responsibility and sustainability. The company stated that AI and autonomy should always be developed with safety, responsibility, and long-term impact in mind. By working with UMPSA and PAC, K2 is building a model that combines academic strength with real-world application.
Leaders Share Their Views
During the event, Sean Teo of K2 said that the agreement reflects a shared vision with Pahang’s leadership. He explained that cross-border collaboration combining academic and industrial expertise can create meaningful results for both nations. Nurazmi Abas of PAC described the deal as a critical step toward making Pahang a hub for advanced innovation and technology.
New Opportunities For Students And Researchers
Dr. Yatimah Alias of UMPSA added that this cooperation would open doors for students and researchers to actively contribute to AI and autonomous development. She stressed that the establishment of UMPSA’s first Venture Studio will provide a practical platform for applying academic knowledge to real-life projects. This will prepare students for future roles in the fast-growing technology sector.
Alignment With UAE’s Global Vision
The collaboration also aligns with the UAE’s national strategy of becoming a global leader in technology and research. It highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to advancing innovation, expanding access to international markets, and building strong global partnerships. Such initiatives also strengthen the UAE’s role as a hub for commercialization of next-generation technologies.
Future Launch At Dubai Airshow 2025
PAC and its partners are preparing to showcase this initiative at the Dubai Airshow 2025, scheduled from 17th to 21st November 2025. This global event will provide an opportunity to highlight the progress of the project and attract further international interest. The launch at such a major platform underscores the importance of this cooperation for both Malaysia and the UAE.
Building A Foundation For Long-Term Growth
The partnership between K2, PAC, and UMPSA is more than just a business deal. It is a long-term investment in education, research, safety, and innovation. By focusing on autonomous systems and AI, the initiative promises to reshape future mobility and strengthen international collaboration. It also marks a key milestone in positioning Pahang as a leading hub for aerospace and advanced technology in Southeast Asia.
