Rishab Shetty’s latest film, Kantara Chapter 1, will be available on Amazon Prime Video from October 31, following its October 2 theatrical premiere. Shetty wrote, directed and leads the picture, which also features Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram. The streaming edition will be offered in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
Prime Video confirmed the date in a Monday post that sparked online interest, sharing a short teaser and the line: “Get ready to witness the LEGENDary adventure of BERME #KantaraALegendChapter1OnPrime, October 31.” The clip shows Shetty’s character Berme preparing for conflict, underscoring the film’s intensity.
The announcement prompted discussion among viewers, with several noting that a Hindi option was not listed. Fans also commented on the quick move to streaming, observing that the OTT debut comes just 29 days after the theatrical release.
Set against the Kadamba dynasty, Kantara Chapter 1 traces the mythic origins of Panjuluri Daiva, Guliga and Chavundi and functions as a prequel to the 2022 film Kantara. Produced by Hombale Films, the story continues to examine the ties between people, the natural world and faith.
Rishab Shetty said in a statement that the film “is deeply rooted in our soil,” noting it honours local rituals and traditions. He added that the emotions and ceremonies depicted are drawn from genuine practices.
The film has posted extraordinary box-office returns, becoming the top-grossing Indian title of 2025. Kantara Chapter 1 surpassed Chhaava’s ₹807 crore and reached around ₹813 crore worldwide within 25 days of release. Shetty thanked audiences for the strong response and welcomed the wider reach offered by Prime Video.
In a further move to broaden its reach, the film will also be released in English in cinemas worldwide on October 31, the same day it appears on the streaming service.
With its blend of folklore, visuals and emotional storytelling, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to attract large streaming audiences when it debuts on Prime Video on October 31.
