Kate Winslet's Directorial Debut: ‘Goodbye June’ with Son Joe

Post by : Meena Hassan

On December 3, Kate Winslet marked the world premiere of her directorial debut, Goodbye June, alongside her son Joe Anders at the Curzon Mayfair in London. This Christmas drama, penned by 21-year-old Joe, signifies the first feature film directed by the Oscar-winning actress.

Winslet dazzled in an elegant Elie Saab dress, complemented by a gold belt and refined accessories, while Joe opted for a classic black suit accented with a white shirt. The event also saw red carpet appearances from co-stars such as Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, and Timothy Spall.

Goodbye June is set to hit select theaters across the U.S. and U.K. on December 12, 2025, followed by its debut on Netflix on December 24, Christmas Eve.

Discussing her motivation behind directing, Winslet expressed a desire to safeguard her son's vision. “After he crafted the screenplay, I committed to producing it and portraying Julia. However, choosing a director made me realize I had to take the reins myself; I couldn't let it become someone else's project,” she stated.

Collaborating with her son provided a distinctive experience, as she noted, “His insights into film are remarkable, and being together every day was wonderful. We discovered so many new facets of each other during the making of this film.”

Winslet co-parents Joe with her former spouse, director Sam Mendes, with whom she parted ways in 2010 and finalized their divorce the following year.
