Khalidiyah Park Reopens with Modern Facilities and Cooled Walkway

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Khalidiyah Park has reopened following a major redevelopment by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT). The park, spread over 62,000 square metres, has been modernised to promote a balanced lifestyle with exercise, leisure, and social spaces.

A key feature of the park is a 660-metre enclosed cooled walkway connecting different zones, with rest spots along the route to encourage outdoor activity throughout the year. The redesign focuses on accessibility for all visitors, including senior citizens and People of Determination, aligning with the UAE Year of Family objectives.

His Excellency Eng Eisa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Director General of Infrastructure Development at DMT, said, "The redevelopment balances modernity with the park’s familiar charm, providing diverse recreational activities while preserving its emotional value to the community."

The upgraded facilities include walking and jogging tracks, two multi-use games areas, football and handball courts, and five children’s play zones, including a sand play area. An amphitheatre has been added for community events, while the central park zone and a sunken garden with ambient lighting serve as gathering spaces.

Environmental sustainability played a major role in the redevelopment. Native and drought-resistant trees were planted, supported by high-efficiency irrigation. Smart LED lighting reduces energy use, and permeable surfaces create cooler microclimates while lowering maintenance needs.

The Khalidiyah Park project reflects DMT’s commitment to the Abu Dhabi Liveability Strategy, backed by AED42 billion to enhance community spaces and urban living.
