Renowned actor Kiefer Sutherland, who has graced the screen for over 40 years, unveils a fresh aspect of his artistry in the uplifting holiday film Tinsel Town. Sutherland takes on the role of Bradley Mack, a once-acclaimed Hollywood star whose glory days are behind him. Struggling with a tarnished reputation, Mack reluctantly accepts a role in a festive stage production—albeit not on London’s famed West End, but rather in a quaint town's Christmas pantomime.
This film allows Sutherland to display his singing and dancing talents as he navigates a range of emotions, forging bonds with quirky co-stars and reconnecting with his estranged daughter. At the film's London premiere, Sutherland expressed that his character's journey from a flawed man to a better person reflects the spirit of Christmas and family. He remarked, "I’ve never performed a song and dance number before, making it a thrilling challenge after 40 years in the industry. I’m truly grateful for these new experiences."
Featuring Rebel Wilson as Jill, the pantomime's choreographer, Tinsel Town also marks the acting debut of Theodora Williams, daughter of pop star Robbie Williams, who plays Jill’s daughter, Cara. Williams shared her insights on adopting a Yorkshire accent for the role, emphasizing the importance of living in the moment to keep her performance authentic.
Directed by Chris Foggin, this film is crafted to resonate with viewers of all ages while honoring the beloved tradition of British pantomime. It also stars Katherine Ryan as Mack's agent and Derek Jacobi as Albert, an esteemed theatre veteran. Actress Maria Friedman, portraying a member of the pantomime troupe, highlighted that the film embodies "Britishness" and kindness, stating, "It’s got a big, warm heart. My goodness, isn’t that what we all need right now?"
Tinsel Town is set to hit select US theaters and digital platforms this Friday, with its UK premiere on Sky Cinema scheduled for December 5. The film not only captures the enchantment of Christmas and the allure of British theatre but also showcases Sutherland's willingness to embrace new challenges, promising fans a fresh and heartfelt cinematic experience.
