Seattle Kraken finally ended their six-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. Vince Dunn scored the winning goal just 1:21 into overtime during a power play, giving Seattle an important home victory. Jared McCann and Matty Beniers also scored for the Kraken, while goalie Joey Daccord made 24 saves to help secure the win. For the Kings, Alex Laferriere and Kevin Fiala found the net, and Anton Forsberg stopped 30 of 33 shots but could not hold off Seattle in the final moments.
Seattle pushed the game into overtime thanks to a late goal from Beniers with only 24.8 seconds left in regulation. The Kraken were on a power play after Forsberg received a penalty for tripping McCann, who was hurt on the play. Eeli Tolvanen sent a sharp pass to Beniers, who redirected it over the goalie’s shoulder to tie the score. That crucial moment kept Seattle alive and gave them the momentum they needed.
In overtime, Seattle got another advantage when Adrian Kempe was called for tripping at 1:05. The Kraken quickly used the opportunity. Tolvanen set up Dunn, who fired a strong slap shot from the right faceoff circle to seal the win. This goal helped Seattle complete their comeback and break their long losing streak.
Earlier in the third period, the Kings took a 2-1 lead when Kevin Fiala scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season on a power play. Anze Kopitar set up the play with a clean pass, allowing Fiala to break behind Seattle’s defense for a mini-breakaway finish. But the Kings could not hold their lead in the intense final minutes.
Seattle’s first goal came at 3:21 of the second period during a power play. Los Angeles forward Quinton Byfield broke his stick and rushed to the bench, giving the Kraken extra space. Dunn passed the puck to McCann, who blasted a powerful one-timer into the net. But just minutes later, a turnover allowed Alex Laferriere to score short-handed for the Kings. Joel Armia chipped the puck ahead, and Laferriere skated in alone before lifting a backhand shot past Daccord to make it 1-1.
The Kraken also placed rookie forward Berkly Catton on injured reserve earlier in the day. Catton, their first-round pick in the 2024 draft, injured his right hand after blocking a shot in their previous game against Detroit. Seattle will now hope to build momentum from this win as they adjust to missing their young forward.
As for the fan question, whether Jack Eichel is on the same level as Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon—Eichel is an elite player but McDavid and MacKinnon are widely seen as the top two players in today’s game, making them a tier above for most analysts.
This exciting match gave Seattle a much-needed confidence boost, showed strong teamwork during key power plays, and highlighted important performances from players like Vince Dunn, Matty Beniers, and Jared McCann.
