KL Hospital Parking Lot Robbery Leads to Conviction

Post by : Shakul

A 34-year-old man has received an 11-month prison sentence for his attempt to rob a woman at the Columbia Asia Hospital Bukit Jalil parking lot. This incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has sparked concerns regarding safety in hospital parking areas across Kuala Lumpur.

Reports indicate that around 11:30am on May 18, the suspect approached a 26-year-old woman while she was seated in her vehicle at the hospital. Allegedly, he forcefully opened her car door and attempted to snatch her phone before trying to escape with her handbag.

A struggle ensued as the woman resisted and called for assistance. Police reports confirmed that the assailant fled on a motorcycle without stealing any items of value.

Mohd Rosdi Daud, the Cheras police chief, noted that the D9 Serious Crimes Investigation Division immediately initiated an operation following the attempted robbery. The suspect was captured in the Brickfields area later that same day at approximately 5:36pm.

Further investigations revealed the accused had an extensive criminal record with 11 prior offenses. Authorities seized several items, including a motorcycle, helmet, and jacket associated with the suspect.

Charged under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery, the man pled guilty in court and received an 11-month prison sentence. Officials commended the rapid arrest as a result of effective police work and community cooperation.

This incident has renewed discussions about personal safety in parking facilities in busy urban areas. Authorities advise the public to stay vigilant, avoid secluded parking areas, and promptly report any suspicious behavior to the police.

Law enforcement officials recommend that hospitals, shopping centers, and commercial spaces enhance their security and surveillance measures in parking zones to deter similar incidents in the future.
