Kuwait authorities have solved four cases involving diesel theft and damage to telecommunications towers in the Jaber Al-Ahmad area, with four suspects arrested during an investigation, the Ministry of Interior said. The arrests were announced by Kuwait's General Department of Criminal Investigation as part of efforts to protect telecommunications infrastructure and other vital facilities.
According to the ministry, the cases had initially been registered against unknown suspects. Investigators intensified their inquiries and used technical methods and monitoring of telecommunications tower sites to identify those allegedly involved in the thefts.
Kuwait police arrested four suspects after investigators identified their alleged involvement in the theft of diesel from telecommunications tower sites. Kuwait Times reported that the suspects were Indian nationals and were arrested in the act.
The investigation was handled by the Criminal Security Sector through the General Department of Criminal Investigation and the Capital Governorate Investigations Department. Authorities said intensified surveillance and modern investigative techniques helped detectives identify the suspected activities.
The cases involved diesel theft as well as damage to telecommunications towers in Jaber Al-Ahmad. Diesel is commonly used as a backup power source for telecommunications infrastructure, making fuel security important for keeping tower operations running during power interruptions.
Kuwaiti authorities said the investigation found that the suspects worked for a company contracted to maintain the telecommunications towers. Investigators allege that their access to the sites was used to obtain additional quantities of diesel.
According to the Ministry of Interior statement reported by Kuwait Times, investigators found that some of the additional diesel was allegedly used to cover shortages at other tower locations, while the remaining fuel was allegedly taken for sale.
When questioned by investigators, the suspects reportedly admitted carrying out the thefts over a period of about two years and at different locations. Authorities also linked the investigation to similar incidents reported in other governorates.
The Kuwait Ministry of Interior said the investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the alleged offences. Detectives are examining whether the suspects were connected to additional cases involving telecommunications infrastructure and fuel theft.
The authorities have not indicated that the investigation is complete. Further details could emerge as investigators examine other locations, records and evidence connected to the suspected activities.
Telecommunications towers are important infrastructure because they support mobile communications and data services. Damage to tower equipment or shortages of backup fuel can potentially affect the reliability of communications, particularly at sites that depend on generators.
Kuwait's Interior Ministry said it would continue pursuing people involved in theft offences and protecting vital facilities and installations. The case highlights the security challenges associated with protecting infrastructure located across multiple sites.
The four suspects are expected to be referred to the competent authorities for legal action after the investigation. Kuwait authorities will determine the appropriate legal measures based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
The Ministry of Interior has not announced the final legal outcome of the cases. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the full scope of the alleged thefts and any links to similar incidents elsewhere in Kuwait.
