Kuwait will sign an important contract next week with China Communications Construction Company to complete the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, according to Public Works Minister Noura Al-Mashaan. The signing ceremony will be attended by Kuwait’s prime minister along with representatives from the Chinese side, showing the high importance of the agreement.
The deal covers engineering, procurement, and construction work for the first phase of the port. The total value of the contract is about 1.219 billion Kuwaiti dinars, making it one of the country’s largest infrastructure agreements.
Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port is located on Bubiyan Island in northern Kuwait and is considered a strategic national project. The port aims to create a secure regional trade route and turn Kuwait into an important commercial hub. China has shown interest in linking the port to its Belt and Road Initiative, which focuses on global trade connections.
The Kuwaiti government believes the port will help diversify the economy, increase GDP growth, and restore Kuwait’s regional commercial and financial position. Officials said nearly half of the first phase has already been completed, although details about the remaining work were not shared.
This port is part of several large projects Kuwait is developing with Chinese support. These include power and water plants, renewable energy projects, waste recycling facilities, and new residential cities. Cooperation between Kuwait and China has grown stronger since multiple agreements were signed in 2023, reflecting deeper economic partnership.
