Tomlin Expresses Interest in a Tobey Maguire-Led Spider-Man 4

Tomlin Expresses Interest in a Tobey Maguire-Led Spider-Man 4

Post by : Meena Hassan

More than 20 years after Tobey Maguire first starred as Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s 2002 film, screenwriter Mattson Tomlin has indicated he would be open to scripting a new instalment with Maguire returning to the role.

Tomlin outlines a more mature Peter Parker

In a recent exchange on X (formerly Twitter), Tomlin replied to a fan about his interest in the Spider-Man franchise. He said his preferred direction would be a Spider-Man 4 that portrays Maguire’s Peter Parker juggling family responsibilities alongside his superhero duties.

Tomlin added that he is drawn to the idea of exploring an older, parented version of the character after recent films have focused on different stages of Peter’s life.

His comments revived discussion among viewers who enjoyed Maguire’s cameo with Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), a moment that brought three generations of the hero together on screen.

Is there progress on Spider-Man 4?

When asked whether development had started on a new Maguire-led project, Tomlin gave a cautiously optimistic response, noting that any progress depends on many parties and complex decisions and that there has been no definitive rejection.

There has been no formal confirmation from Tobey Maguire or director Sam Raimi. Still, Tomlin’s remarks have prompted speculation about either continuing Raimi’s original trilogy or creating a separate story within the Spider-Verse that centres on an experienced, family-oriented Peter Parker.

Meanwhile: Tom Holland’s next chapter

Separately, Tom Holland will lead the next MCU Spider-Man titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set for release on July 31, 2026. Zendaya will return as MJ, and Holland has described the film as a reset for his take on the character following the events of No Way Home.

Tomlin’s other work

Tomlin is also attached to The Batman: Part II, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, which is scheduled for October 2027. Observers note that Tomlin’s involvement in high-profile superhero projects could influence future multiverse or legacy stories if studio conditions align.

At present there is no official announcement of a Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man film, but Tomlin’s public comments have renewed fan interest in seeing Maguire reprise the role as an older, family-oriented Spider-Man.
