Microsoft to Begin Local Copilot Data Processing in UAE

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Microsoft has announced a major plan to start local data processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot in the United Arab Emirates by early 2026. This service will be available to qualified UAE organizations and hosted in Microsoft’s advanced cloud data centers located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The goal is to help local companies use artificial intelligence more securely and efficiently while keeping data within the country.

Supporting UAE’s AI Vision

This step supports the UAE’s vision to become a global hub for artificial intelligence. The government has launched several initiatives such as the National AI Strategy 2031 and the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI. These programs aim to encourage responsible and secure use of artificial intelligence while boosting innovation and economic growth.

Partnership Strengthens National Goals

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, said that the UAE continues to move forward with a clear vision for the future. The partnership with Microsoft, he added, supports the country’s goal of building a secure and advanced digital ecosystem. It will also help government entities adopt AI safely while maintaining national data sovereignty.

Enhancing Security and Data Protection

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of the UAE Cybersecurity Council, praised Microsoft’s role in ensuring data security. He said the partnership aligns with the UAE’s goal of building strong and safe digital systems. With local data centers, all Copilot interactions will be stored and processed inside the UAE, offering better privacy, reduced latency, and full compliance with national rules.

Microsoft’s collaboration with the UAE will also create new opportunities for jobs and skill development. The company expects its cloud ecosystem to generate over 152,000 new jobs and plans to train one million people in AI skills by 2027. This marks another big step in the UAE’s journey toward becoming a global leader in responsible and innovative artificial intelligence.
