Vijayapura, Karnataka: A light earthquake measuring 3.1 was recorded near Vijayapura district on Tuesday morning, November 4, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.
The tremor occurred at 07:49 IST at a shallow depth of 5 km and caused brief shaking across parts of the district, with no immediate reports of structural damage or injuries, officials added.
The NCS shared the event details on X: “EQ of M: 3.1, On: 04/11/2025 07:49:04 IST, Lat: 16.91 N, Long: 75.75 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Vijayapura, Karnataka.”
Locals described mild vibrations and a low rumbling noise, but district authorities said there were no visible signs of damage. Officials continue to monitor the situation and urged residents to follow routine safety precautions.
The small quake comes a day after a powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 640, with reports of damage to part of Mazar-e-Sharif’s Blue Mosque.
Other recent seismic events include a 5.8 quake in northern Chile earlier on Monday and a 4.9 tremor in western Turkey’s Sindirgi, the town’s third in under three months.
Seismologists say the sequence of quakes across Asia and Europe points to active fault movement in multiple regions, but the Vijayapura event is classified as minor and not a local threat.
Authorities reported no aftershocks to date and confirmed the area remains safe.
