Four Falcons Sold for SAR652,000 at Saudi Hunting Exhibition

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The 2025 International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition witnessed an exciting auction on Wednesday, where four falcons — three Mongolian and one local — were sold for a total of SAR652,000. The event attracted keen bidders and a large audience, showcasing the popularity of falconry in the Kingdom.

Mongolian Falcons Lead the Auction

The auction began with the three Mongolian falcons, known for their exceptional quality. The first falcon, a hur qarnas (adult), was sold for SAR200,000. This was followed by a hur farkh that fetched SAR90,000. The third Mongolian hur qarnas started at SAR70,000 but saw competitive bidding, eventually selling for SAR201,000.

Local Falcon Fetches High Price

The evening concluded with the auction of a local falcon, a shaheen farkh (juvenile). The bidding began at SAR30,000, but strong interest pushed the price to SAR161,000, highlighting the value and prestige of local falcons in Saudi falconry circles.

Special Zone for Mongolian Falcons

For the first time, the exhibition featured a dedicated zone for Mongolian falcons. These birds are highly prized by falconers in the Kingdom and the region for their superior qualities. The new section underscored the importance of Mongolian falcons in the cultural heritage of falconry.

Cultural Significance of Falcons

Falconry has deep cultural roots in Saudi Arabia and remains a symbol of tradition and prestige. Events like the International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition provide a platform for enthusiasts to showcase prized falcons, exchange expertise, and participate in auctions that reflect the birds’ market value.

Auction Highlights Falcon Value

The sale of the four falcons for over SAR650,000 emphasizes the high demand for premium falcons, particularly Mongolian species. The competitive nature of the auction and enthusiastic audience participation highlighted the ongoing prominence of falconry in Saudi cultural and sporting life.

The exhibition continues to play a vital role in preserving and promoting falconry heritage in Saudi Arabia. By introducing new features such as the Mongolian falcon zone, organizers aim to attract more participants, educate the public, and celebrate the Kingdom’s rich falconry tradition.
