NEET UG Set for Digital Format Starting in 2027

Post by : Shakul

In a significant development, the Government of India has unveiled plans to overhaul the NEET-UG examination process amid recent controversies involving paper leaks. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan disclosed that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate medical admissions will transition to a fully computer-based format starting next year, aiming to enhance transparency within the examination framework.

This announcement follows the National Testing Agency's decision to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 exam due to serious allegations of irregularities and paper leaks, which sparked widespread concern among students and parents alike. Calls for accountability and a fair re-test process gained momentum in the aftermath.

During a press conference in New Delhi, Minister Pradhan emphasized the government's dedication to preventing future misconduct. He acknowledged the commitment students exhibit while preparing for such highly competitive exams like NEET, assuring that protective measures will be significantly strengthened moving forward.

Additionally, the minister announced a re-examination for NEET-UG 2026, scheduled for June 21, 2026, while confirming the complete shift to a computer-based test system by 2027. This change aims to lessen incidents of paper leaks and enhance monitoring during exams.

As indicated by officials, the Central Bureau of Investigation has commenced a thorough inquiry into the alleged irregularities tied to the cancelled exam, scrutinizing possible organized cheating and individuals associated with the leaks.

The switch to a digital examination format is anticipated to modernize the process and bolster security measures. Authorities believe technological surveillance will minimize unauthorized access to exam materials and provide better oversight.

Education specialists view this decision as one of the most pivotal reforms in India’s medical entrance examination landscape in years. Nonetheless, many students and coaching centers are likely to seek adequate preparatory resources and mock testing opportunities prior to the nationwide rollout of the new digital format.

NEET-UG is recognized as one of India's largest competitive entrance exams, facilitating admission to medical institutions throughout the nation. Annually, millions of candidates participate, underscoring the necessity for transparency and equity in the examination process.
