Dulquer Salmaan’s latest thriller, Kaantha, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, is all set for its OTT debut on Netflix after a successful theatrical run on November 14. From December 12, viewers can enjoy the film in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam, with the Kannada version titled Shaantha. Netflix characterized the film as “A masterpiece, a mentor, and a murder. Watch as pride spirals into revenge—who will falter first?”
Set in the vibrant backdrop of 1950s Madras, Kaantha dives into the complexities of relationships and betrayal within the film industry. Dulquer portrays TKM, a renowned actor embroiled in a fierce rivalry with his mentor Ayya, played by Samuthirakani. Tensions rise further when a shocking death occurs on set, spotlighting both as prime suspects. Bhagyashri Borse takes on the role of Kumari, an aspiring actress, while Rana Daggubati plays Inspector Phoenix, who is determined to unearth the truth.
The movie has earned ₹35.36 crore globally at the box office. Although reviews were varied, Dulquer’s performance as TKM received accolades, showcasing his ability to shine in an uneven narrative. With excitement brewing on social media for the film's OTT arrival, fans are eager to revisit Kaantha or witness Bhagyashri’s captivating performance.
Continuing a trend in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Kaantha's shift to OTT occurs three to four weeks post-theatrical release, allowing eager fans prompt access. Netflix’s multi-language approach ensures the story resonates with audiences from various regions, with Shaantha providing greater inclusivity.
This film combines mystery and psychological intrigue, exploring the themes of ambition and revenge in the cutthroat world of cinema. With its compelling narrative and exceptional performances, Kaantha promises to captivate thriller fans.
