Saudi Arabia is rapidly transforming into a place where people can enjoy a better quality of life, and one of the best examples of this change is the Sands Sports Park. This exciting new park is located southeast of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. What makes it special is how beautifully it blends the natural desert scenery with fun and healthy activities for people of all ages.

Instead of just being a regular park, Sands Sports Park is a part of a much bigger plan called the Sports Boulevard project. This is a major step forward for Saudi Arabia as the country works hard to offer more green spaces, sports options, and fun outdoor areas for families, young people, and even tourists.

A Desert Park with a Unique Purpose

The Sands Sports Park is not just built on empty land—it stretches across a huge area of natural sand dunes. These dunes have been carefully preserved and improved to fit into the park's design without harming the natural environment. In fact, over 350,000 square meters of sand dunes were fixed up as part of the project. This means the park doesn't just look good—it also respects and protects nature.

The goal of this park is simple: help people live healthier lives by getting them outside to enjoy nature and exercise. Whether you like walking, running, biking, or even horseback riding, the park has a trail or path just for you.

Over 45 Kilometers of Trails for All Activities

One of the most exciting things about the park is its long system of trails. These trails add up to more than 45 kilometers, making this the longest open-air sports park in Saudi Arabia. People can choose from a variety of paths built for different activities, including:

  • Walking

  • Jogging or running

  • Cycling for both beginners and pros

  • Mountain biking

  • Horseback riding

  • Hiking through the desert terrain

With so many trail options, everyone—young and old, experienced or beginner—can find a way to enjoy the outdoors at their own pace.

Design Inspired by Local Culture

While the park is modern and full of useful facilities, it doesn’t forget the traditions and beauty of Saudi Arabia. One of the key features of the park is a sculpture of the Najdi rose, placed right where several trails meet. This flower isn’t just a decoration—it’s a symbol of local art and heritage, reminding everyone of the rich culture of the Najd region. The rose also serves as a beautiful spot where people can rest, take photos, or meet with friends.

The design of the park shows how culture and modernity can go hand in hand. Even though it’s filled with the latest sports features, the park still feels natural and true to its roots.

Eco-Friendly and Sustainable from Start to Finish

Another big highlight of the Sands Sports Park is how it was built with care for the environment. Instead of cutting down trees or building over the sand dunes, the designers worked with nature. They built the trails and sports areas within the natural shapes and slopes of the land, which helps preserve the local ecosystem.

This smart and responsible planning is part of Saudi Arabia’s larger promise to become more eco-friendly and sustainable, especially as the world begins to care more about the environment. Parks like this show that fun, fitness, and sustainability can all exist together in one place.

A Home for Sports Competitions

Not only is the Sands Sports Park a great place for casual outdoor fun, but it’s also ready to host real sports events. With its high-quality cycling trails and open design, the park is expected to hold cycling races, endurance events, and other competitions. This helps place Saudi Arabia on the world map when it comes to sports, especially in the area of eco-tourism and outdoor adventure.

Events like these are not just good for local athletes—they can also attract tourists, professionals, and sports fans from around the world, boosting the local economy and promoting Saudi culture at the same time.

A Place for Everyone

One of the most beautiful things about the park is that it was built for everyone, not just for athletes or tourists. Families can enjoy quiet walks, kids can ride bikes safely, and older people can relax in peaceful surroundings. The paths are safe and well-marked, making it easy for anyone to find their way.

The Sands Sports Park is a community-centered place, designed to help people connect—with nature, with their health, and with each other.

Supporting Saudi Vision 2030

This park is more than just a fun spot—it’s a key part of Saudi Vision 2030, a national plan to make life better for all people in the Kingdom. One of the goals of Vision 2030 is to make cities greener, healthier, and more livable. The Sands Sports Park fits this goal perfectly by offering a space where people can enjoy the outdoors, get fit, and appreciate the beauty of the desert.

The park also supports the idea of inclusive public spaces, which means it welcomes everyone—regardless of age, ability, or background. It shows that urban growth doesn’t have to mean losing touch with nature.

A New Way to See Riyadh

As Riyadh grows and becomes more modern, places like the Sands Sports Park show the city's commitment to balanced development. Instead of only building skyscrapers or shopping malls, the city is also investing in places that help people slow down, stay healthy, and enjoy life.

This is a big step forward for Riyadh, and for the entire Kingdom. By combining innovation, tradition, nature, and community, the Sands Sports Park stands as a powerful example of what the future of Saudi Arabia can look like.
