Arts and Culture Vital for Urban Development - Nga Kor Ming

Post by : Shakul

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming expressed that contemporary cities should not depend solely on physical infrastructure. He asserted that arts, culture, and human connections are crucial for establishing vibrant and inclusive urban communities.

During a cultural event in Ipoh, Nga highlighted that while the government persists in investing in public infrastructure, affordable housing, and enhanced amenities, genuine urban success transcends mere construction.

He noted that the true measure of a city’s progress should encompass not just skyscrapers and highways, but also the emotional well-being, identity, and sense of community among its inhabitants.

Nga argued that without cultural and artistic pursuits, even the most developed cities may become emotionally barren spaces where residents experience isolation.

He emphasized that arts and cultural initiatives are instrumental in enhancing unity, compassion, and mutual respect within Malaysia’s diverse population.

Music, he pointed out, is a universal language that can transcend race, religion, and geography, fostering understanding and peace.

The minister encouraged Malaysians to view diversity as an asset, as it increases creativity, resilience, and contributes to national progress when people collaborate harmoniously.

His remarks came during the MADANI Philharmonic Musical Concert 2026: A Tune of Friendship and Unity in Harmony, held at the RTM Auditorium.

This concert showcased performances by various orchestras, demonstrating collaboration among musicians from diverse backgrounds to celebrate cultural unity.

Nga also called for citizens to eschew extremism and prejudice, stressing that unity and shared values are essential for Malaysia’s ongoing development and global regard.
