NYU Abu Dhabi Expands AI Programs to Train Future Tech Leaders

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is increasing its focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) through new educational programs and research initiatives, supporting the UAE’s goal to become a global AI leader under the National Strategy for AI 2031.

The university recently launched a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MIDSAI), designed to equip students with the skills needed for future careers in AI and related fields. NYUAD also hosts the annual International Hackathon for Social Good, which attracts students worldwide and highlights the UAE’s commitment to innovative technology.

Since its founding, NYUAD has set up several AI research centres. The Centre for AI and Robotics focuses on developing applications for sensor data processing, motion understanding, path planning in unknown environments, autonomous decision-making, and robot safety. The Centre for Quantum and Topological Systems works on advancing quantum computing technologies, while the CAMeL Lab (Computational Approaches to Modeling Language) focuses on Arabic natural language processing, machine translation, text analytics, and dialogue systems.

In addition to AI, NYUAD supports research in other areas through centres such as the Public Health Research Centre, the Centre for Genomics and Systems Biology, the Mubadala Arabian Centre for Climate and Environmental Sciences (ACCESS), and the Centre for Smart Engineering Materials.

Fabio Piano, Interim Vice Chancellor of NYUAD, said the university is committed to helping the UAE achieve its AI strategy by equipping students with the skills needed to succeed in the job market of the future.

NYUAD attracts top students from around the world with highly selective admission standards. The university has approximately 2,200 students and counts four Nobel Laureates among its faculty.

Through these programs and initiatives, NYUAD continues to play a key role in advancing AI education and research, preparing students to become future leaders in technology while supporting the UAE’s vision for innovation and global competitiveness.
