Oman Launches 2025 Youth Ambassadors Program to Train Leaders

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in Oman has launched the third edition of the "Youth Ambassadors" project for the year 2025. This project is done together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The program will happen in Muscat in October. Its main goal is to help young people improve their skills and take part more in society. It also supports the goals of Oman’s Tenth Five-Year Plan, which focuses on youth priorities.

Success of Past Editions Encourages New Program

This is the third time the program is being held because the first two editions in 2023 and 2024 were very successful. In 2024, the program trained 100 young men and women in leadership and diplomacy skills. These young people also learned about the main ideas and work of the United Nations and its different councils. The program helped youth connect better with global and regional organizations. It also prepared them to take part in important discussions at local and international levels.

More Youth to Take Part in 2025 Edition

Hilal Saif Al Siyabi, the Director General of Youth at the Ministry, said the Ministry is happy to continue this program every year. He said the success of the first two editions and the strong interest from young people made the Ministry decide to organize it again. The first edition had 75 participants, and the second one had 100. This year, the Ministry wants to involve 120 young people. Out of these, 21 seats will be given to youth from Gulf and Arab countries. Many of these countries have already agreed to join.

Program Includes Important Workshops and UN Simulation

The 2025 program will include many important activities. Young people will meet with diplomats and leaders to learn from them. There will be training workshops organized with UNITAR. One special part of the program is the Model United Nations (MUN) simulation. In this session, about 100 young people act as diplomats from different countries. They debate, negotiate, and work on solving global problems, just like in the real United Nations.

What is Model United Nations for Youth?

Model United Nations is a practice event that copies how the real United Nations works. Young people act as official representatives of different countries or organizations. They take part in discussions on important topics such as peace, security, human rights, environment, hunger, economic development, and globalization. During the sessions, they speak for their assigned country, make speeches, and try to find solutions by working with others. They follow real UN rules for meetings. This helps them understand how countries work together to solve world issues.

Who Can Join the Youth Ambassadors Program?

The Ministry has set rules for who can join the program. Applicants must be Omani youth between 18 and 29 years old. They must want to fully participate and follow all program rules. Participants should be healthy and able to attend all sessions on time. The Ministry will select participants through an online process. Priority will be given to youth who did not take part in the first edition. The Ministry will also make sure there is a fair balance between males and females and across all governorates of Oman. To apply, young people must fill out a registration form and answer all questions.

How the Program Benefits Youth and Oman

The Youth Ambassadors program helps young Omanis gain important skills in leadership, diplomacy, and international relations. It prepares them to be active in local, regional, and global issues. By learning about the United Nations and how it works, youth become better equipped to represent Oman in the future. The program also builds their confidence and ability to speak and negotiate in public. This is good for their personal growth and also helps Oman by creating a new generation of skilled young leaders.

Cooperation with International Partners

This program shows how Oman works with international organizations like the United Nations. The cooperation with UNITAR means youth get high-quality training from experts. It also strengthens Oman’s role in global youth development and diplomacy. The participation of youth from other Gulf and Arab countries adds a regional dimension, encouraging friendship and understanding between young people from different nations.

How to Apply and What to Expect

Young Omanis interested in the program should apply online and meet all the requirements. Once selected, they will take part in workshops, meetings with diplomats, and the MUN simulation. They will gain new knowledge about international politics, diplomacy, and youth leadership. The program will challenge them to think critically, communicate well, and work in teams to solve real-world problems.

The Future of Youth Leadership in Oman

The Youth Ambassadors project is part of Oman’s wider plan to support young people and prepare them for the future. It aligns with the national strategy to empower youth and increase their participation in society. As more young people join every year, the program’s impact will grow. It will help Oman build a strong group of future leaders ready to represent the country on big stages worldwide.
