In a strategic move against terrorism, Pakistani security forces have eliminated at least 17 members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as reported by officials on Saturday. These missions targeted known militant locations in Bannu district after reliable intelligence indicated the presence of these extremist groups.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed announced that a collaborative endeavor involving Lakki Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Bannu, and other security agencies resulted in the neutralization of 10 militants. Additionally, five militants sustained injuries, and a facilitator was apprehended. The remains of seven militants were recovered, while three others could not be accessed immediately due to the difficult mountainous terrain.
Simultaneously, another eight-hour operation executed by Bannu Police, CTD, and security personnel led to the deaths of seven more militants, with numerous others injured. Remarkably, all police and security forces involved reported no injuries, thanks to the full cooperation of local residents, which was key in the success of the operations.
Authorities seized a substantial amount of weaponry and explosives from the militants, greatly undermining their operational efficacy. This included firearms, ammunition, and various components for creating improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
In a related action, police successfully neutralized a 10-kg bomb found inside a ghee tin at Aabshar Chowk in Bannu. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sajjad Khan highlighted the timely intervention of the Bomb Disposal Squad that prevented a potential disaster for local residents and visitors.
These operations signify continued counter-terrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a region historically plagued by militant activity. Authorities remain firm in their resolve to eliminate extremist factions and uphold peace in the area. Security personnel are on alert for any residual threats while the invaluable role of community support in these endeavors has been prominently recognized.
These actions are reflective of Pakistan's increased alertness against extremist factions, with collaborative efforts among police, military, and counter-terrorism entities aimed at dismantling militant frameworks and mitigating risks of future assaults.
