Authorities in the UK have ramped up efforts to locate Pankaj Lamba, the suspect in the murder of his wife, Harshita Brella. Her body was discovered in the trunk of a vehicle in Ilford, East London, on November 14, 2024, following her alleged murder days earlier in Corby, Northamptonshire.
After the incident, Lamba made his escape to India and has since evaded capture. In their ongoing investigation, UK police have traveled to India to gather information. Reports indicate that earlier this year, Lamba operated a small store in Delhi that sold snacks and vegetables, maintaining a low profile, usually with a woman and a young child. The store has since been altered to sell only eggs.
Both Lamba and Brella had roots in Delhi before relocating to the UK earlier in 2024. In March, he faced charges including murder and sexual assault, but he had been out on bail due to previous domestic abuse accusations made by Brella against him, with the bail conditions lifting just a month before her tragic death.
Brella’s family has voiced their anger at how the case has been managed. Her mother, Sudesh Kumari, expressed her desperation for justice: “Why hasn’t her killer been apprehended yet? Neither the UK nor the Indian authorities are taking action. I seek justice for my daughter; only then will I find peace.” Brella's sister, Sonia Dabas, has also condemned the negligence shown by both governments in responding to the case.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is examining the actions of four officers from Northamptonshire Police regarding their handling of Brella's earlier domestic abuse reports. The findings of this review have been finalized and given to the police, who are expected to respond by mid-November.
As the search for Lamba intensifies, UK authorities are appealing for information about his current location, stressing the critical need to ensure justice is served for Harshita Brella.
